about us
We play who we are
When we, The Just Intervals, are talking about our band to people who haven’t heard us before the inevitable question always seems to come up, “what kind of music do you play?” We always try to give an answer but we really struggle with it. When you’re inspired by blues, rock, jazz, R&B, country, indie, hip-hop, etc… and you then pull from all those inspired elements as well as your own thoughts and feelings to create new music, how exactly, do you tell someone what kind of music you play? What we end up telling most people is that we play some hybrid of rock and classic R & B, originals and covers, but what we really want to tell them is this: We play who we are. We play our heart and we play our soul. We play our history and we play our thoughts. We play our wants and our needs, our humor and our laughter, our angry and our frustrations, our love and our desires. We play who we are. We hope that, by doing so, we can connect with our listeners and inspire, entertain, and relate to them through music. In many ways this is the purpose of music but so many bands have lost sight of this purpose. They limit themselves to specific genres and styles so that they may easily market themselves. They stick to simple original arrangements with four chord loops because that is what sells. We don’t do that, we study all genres and styles of music and then use whatever tools we can to relate to our listener through original music. We strive to have truly unique original music that transcends generic labels and finds itself amongst great musical compositions. We are The Just Intervals: Oscar Baca, Derek Norman, Dash Albrecht, and Samuel Hess. We play who we are. Click more to here samples of the music we create.
